For those reading this post for the first time—and as a reminder to myself—I write to see clearly, to remain attentive, and to stay awake to the extraordinary ordinary that greets me each day.
Oh, thank you! We are moving to Afurada at the end of this year. We spent the summer there, on a balcony overlooking the river. I miss it so much. Your words and photos took me back.
Maria, this was a lovely snapshot of your life in Vila Nova de Gaia. My husband and I are considering Vila Nova de Gaia as an option when we move to Porto in 2027 and you certainly make it sound appealing! You described the sounds, the sights, and the simple pleasures of the day so well. I appreciate it.
You capture so well the gratitude for adventures away with the quieter yet satisfying everyday joy of home. Looking forward to hearing more about that sourdough!
I've really grown to love Vila Nova de Gaia. Like anywhere, it has its own personality, but for us it offers a wonderful balance of everyday life, beautiful walks, and easy access to Porto. It has slowly become home.
I hope as you continue exploring your options for 2027, you find the place that feels right for you and your husband. One of the joys of this journey is discovering that home often reveals itself gradually rather than all at once.
Thank you, as always, for reading so thoughtfully.

Thank you, Rhetta.
